We offer exclusive trekking tours in the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest in the world. This VIP service is best described as luxurious trekking in private or small groups (maximum 5 people). All the meals will leave you full and satisfied and acommidations are private. You have the option to do a two or three day trek along a 25 km circuit and both tours are recommended for people with or without hiking/trekking experience.

2 Day Trek Itinerary

 

Day 0:   You will be briefed in your hotel the evening before the trek to go over itinerary details and packing essentials.

Day 1 (Arequipa - San Juan - Sangalle Oasis):   At 6:00 in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in a private car and head northwest to San Miguel where the trek begins. First, you will descend 3-4 hours to the bottom of the canyon on a wide, switch back path until arriving to a small town called San Juan de Chuccho. Here you will stop to take a break and eat lunch. The meals are large and delicios consisting of a soup entrée and your choice of a selection of Peruvian main dishes like lomo saltado or pollo al horno. There are also vegetarian options availabe and we can accommodate any food restrictions or allergies (just let us know beforehand!). After lunch, you will continue trekking for approximately 3 hours, up and down along the canyon wall, passing a few small villages and learning about the local flora and fauna, until finally descending to Sangalle that sits at the very bottom of the canyon. Sangalle is an oasis at 1,900 meters and is the deepest point of the trek. Upon arriving, you will have the opportunity to relax in natural fed pools before eating dinner. Here you will spend the night cozy bungalows made of bamboo.

NOTE: These accommodations do NOT have electricity or private bathrooms. There are shared bathrooms with showers, but there is NO hot water. 

Day 2 (Sangalle Oasis - Chivay - Arequipa):   We will wake up at 4:00 AM to start trekking out of the canyon to Cabanaconde. After a 3 hour climb out of the canyon we will walk through the small town of Cabanaconde to eat a large, tasty breakfast.  After breakfast, you will be driven back towards Chivay making various stops along the way to see condors, pre-Incan and Incan terraces, colonial towns, and other views. Upon arriving to Chivay we will stop at La Calera hot springs for a one hour visit to soak your aching muscles. Afterwards, you will be taken to a local restaurant in Chivay before returning to Arequipa. En route to Arequipa, you descend from 4,830 meters to 2,325 meters and make a couple stops along the way. The first stop is the Andes viewpoint situated at 4,800 meters in the Patapampa mountain pass, the highest point of the journey. The next stop is the wetlands of the Pampa Cañahuas National Reserve to look for viuñas, alpacas, llamas, and more local flora and fauna. You will arrive back in Arequipa at approximately 5:30 PM and you will be dropped at your hotel.

3 Day Trek Itinerary

Day 1 (Arequipa - San Juan):   At 7:00 in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in a private car and head northwest to Cabanaconde, a small town at the edge of the majestic Colca Canyon. Upon arriving, you will eat a energizing lunch before heading to the trailhead in San Miguel. You will descend 3-4 hours to the bottom of the canyon on a switch back path until arriving to a small town called San Juan de Chuccho. Here, a warm, satisfying dinner will be waiting for you in a local family home where you will have a private bathroom with hot water.  

Day 2 (San Juan - Sangalle Oasis - Cabanaconde):   At 8AM, a delicious pancake breakfast will be served. After eating, you will continue trekking for 3 hours, up and down along the canyon wall, until descending to the Sangalle Oasis that sits at the very bottom of the canyon. Sangalle is an oasis at 1,900 meters and is the deepest point of the trek. Upon arriving midday, you will eat a satisfying lunch. Afterwards, you will have the option to relax in the natural fed pools, relax in the hammocks, or play soccer. In the late afternoon, you will hike the final portion of the trek out of the canyon. The climb takes approximately 3 hours and you will arrive back to Cabanaconde to eat a large dinner and retire to your private hotel room with a private bathroom and hot water.

Day 3 (Cabanaconde - Chivay - Arequipa):   At 8AM, you will eat breakfast before driving back towards Chivay making various stops along the way to see condors, pre-Incan and Incan terraces, colonial towns, and other views.
